The Emmanuel Church Beavers
The Beavers had a wondeful time visiting the Mayor's parlour on February 4th 2008
They learned a little of the Mayor's role as our first citizen and were privileged to see first hand some of the borough's interesting historical artifacts.

Councillor Nigel Betts, who represents the Falconwood & Welling Ward, became the London Borough of Bexley's 44th Mayor at the Council's annual meeting on 16th May 2007. He is actually the 68th person to hold the title Mayor of Bexley since the old Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937
The Beavers very much appreciated the very warm welcome and the hospitality they all received.  The Mayor, his Mace Bearer and Chauffer each gave an interesting talk about their various roles and the history of the Mayoral role in general in the Borough.  We are deeply grateful to The Mayor and his team for giving up their time so freely to make us all so welcome.   We are also grateful to Ian who is a fantastic leader to our Beavers and arranges all manner of interesting trips for them. **  Ian Dunn writes;

Beaver Scouts from the 3rd Sidcup Scout Group acompanied by the Minister Mike Williams, recently paid a visit to the Mayors Parlour at the Civic Centre, Bexleyheath.  The current Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Nigel Betts, met the Colony.

For the first part of the evening the Beavers discovered the Mayoral duties of the Mace Bearer (Steve) and the Official Driver (Paul) The Mayor holds office for one year from May to May.

The Mayor went on to talk about his public duties within Bexley and when representing the Borough.  The young people were very interested in seeing the various Mayoral links on display that previous Mayors wore prior to the reorganisation that brought the four serving Mayors of Sidcup, Erith etc. to form the current one Mayoral Office in Bexley.

Concluding the visit to the Mayor's Parlour, and without any red faces..!  The Beavers enjoyed observing the process of robing the Mayor in his official garments that represent his Office
